How to Make The Best At-Home Italian Soda

There’s something effortlessly joyful about an Italian soda.

Maybe it’s the bubbles.

Maybe it’s the bright burst of flavour.

Or maybe it’s the way it transports you straight to a sunny patio somewhere in Italy, no passport required.

Light, refreshing, and endlessly customizable, this café classic is as fun to make as it is to sip. Whether you prefer something fruity and fizzy or smooth and creamy, this is your moment to channel your inner barista (or should we say, barista italiano).

What You’ll Need

  • Ice

  • ¾ cup sparkling water (either club soda or soda water works well)

  • 2–3 tbsp flavoured syrup (we love Monin’s fruit-forward options like raspberry, peach, or strawberry)

  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp half and half or cream for a rich, “dirty soda” style twist

  • Optional: Whipped cream for topping

  • Optional: Fruit for garnish

How to Make It

  1.  Fill a 12–16 oz glass with ice.
  2.  Pour the syrup over the ice.
  3.  Slowly add the sparkling water to combine while keeping that lovely fizz.
  4.  Stir gently to blend the flavours.
  5.  Optional: For a creamier version, stir in half and half or cream.
  6. Optional: Top with whipped cream for an extra decadent touch.

Pro Tip

For a touch of artistry, layer the syrup first, then ice, followed by sparkling water for a beautiful ombré effect before you stir. Simple, elegant, and perfectly sweet, just like la dolce vita.
